Nisiros

Nisiros

Maria & Panagiotis

Nisyros is an island located in the southern Aegean and is a part of the Dodecanese group of islands. It also belongs to the group of ancient Southern Sporades, located west of Rhodes between Kos, Tilos and Astypalaia.

A place of wild beauty, as Nisyros was formed by volcanic eruptions. Mandraki is the capital and the harbour of the island, with its white houses built below the imposing rock where the Monastery of the Panagia Spiliani stands. The center of the island is a semi-active caldera created by the eruption that took place 24,000 years ago and covered the slopes of the island with a pumice layer thickness of 100 meters.

It was August 2016 and my friend Elli (hairstylist of the wedding) and I took the ferry to Nisiros, it took us about 4 hours to get to Nisiros from Rhodes, the weather was incredible, just the right amount of heat and a gentle breeze to cool us off.

Maria greeted us on the port and showed us the way to our charming town hotel! we immediately dropped off our makeup bags & tools and went for a stroll around Mandraki which is the capital of the island.

The following day we took breakfast and headed to Melanopetra, the beautiful white marble house where the couple was staying. The ceremony was held in the monastery of Profitis Ilias on top of the volcanic area of nisiros, the view was etraodinary and the ceremony was beautiful and serene.

We were so sad to go because we became good friends with everyone and those moments we spent will be in our hearts forever.

Till next time Nisiros, Thank you Maria and Panagioti for 3 extraodinary days of fun and creativity!
